pigmanjim, You are way off base in saying that a 9860 is bigger than an 8010. look at a fact sheet and you will se that the 9860 is the same as a 9650 only more hp. A 2388 has both of them beat in sq. in. and an 8010's only equal is a CR 970 both of which have a lot more cleaning capacity than any of the STS models. From a earlier post, JD says you can max out the sts with the 9760 size, why would anyone spend the extra money for a 9860 to do cornIJ Wheat might be a different story. Talking with a friend whose neighbor ran a 9860 this past fall, busted the frame, so something needs more engineering, maybe came too early. Take a closer look. You were running a bigger machine.

The trick with dealing with Cat dealers is to find one that does truck engine service, in addition to ag_construction. A lot that service trucks will run two shifts in the truck shop, and have parts availability til midnight or so.

Pet your kitty with this, if you happen to consume a rock or auger finger and it bungs things up enough inside, it will cost you 16 hrs on the clock to get the rotor out and then you have to pay for the damage repairs

Okay, figure this. CNH stopped making the 7010 for now because it had no more capacity than a 2388. Isn't the 7010 supposed to be the same combine as the 8010 size-wiseIJ I think so! Therefore, how is the 8010 any bigger than a 2388 other than HP. Two things to think about: 1. Size of the cleaning shoe doesn't mean it has more capacity. It's how you use it. (Guys have been saying this to women forever.) Trust me, I've seen it, the 60 Series combines have 20% more capacity in the cleaning area without increasing the size whatsoever. It's all about air movement and grain movement. 2. The Deere design allows the combine to take less hp to make the crop go through the combine. Plus all those hydraulic motors take hp to run. Fact is, when it's all said and done, the 9860sts has more hp to use getting tough crops out, running the corn head and a faster speed, etc... than the 8010 does. And by the way, CNH has completely STOPPED making the AFX combines for now (I've seen the press, check that, internal, memo). If you don't believe me, call your dealer and ask, or take a tour at Grand Island. When's the last time you saw a red combine going down the interstateIJ Seen many a yellow one though.

I agree on your assement on the shoe. We run a CTS II which basically a 9500 with 2 rotors instead of strawalkers. We have more capacity than a 9600 in wheat and barley even though the shoe is the same size used on the 9500. Difference is that they want you to open the precleaner up on the CTS.

The 7010 has more sq in than a 2388 granted, but because it's short of hp. it can't utilize it's full potential because, IJIJIJIJ, could it be wt.IJ(10000+ lbs) maybe the hyd drivesIJ The AFX rotor design reduces the hp requirement similar to what you say about the Deere design. That is where the 2388 was able to gain on the 7010, but when you put the hp to the total package, cleaning area, elevator capacity(6300+ bph) and they will, you'll see the real difference then. If they increase the hp on the 70 and 8010, then, will that not be the same as JD didIJ, only thing is they will have the size and Deere won't. To me there is no substitute for inches, sq or cu., ie engine hp,. If Deere can increase capacity with hp alone, 9650 vs 9860, what's the different between the two machinesIJ, unloading auger, final drives, what elseIJ CIH did the same thing with the 80 series, 1480 to the 1680 more hp, then a small size increase plus more hp to the 88 and there is a noticable difference in total performance, I have one of each. Deere will have to come with a different package as they are close to being maxed out with current models. I understand there was proto of some type running in NE IA this past fall.--- My opinion only.
