I can't remember which motor the 7020 has in it, but our 8010 had the 301 - it was rock solid above 1600 rpm but wouldn't lug very well below that. Seems like you needed 1700 rpms to get the turbo "spun up" and get the ponies. The 8010 was the exact opposite of the JD 4020 it replaced - 4020 lugged like crazy at low rpm but wouldn't hold at rated speed. The problem was that you needed to keep the rpms UP on the 4020 when working him to keep johnny from overheating. Believe me, after using both and seeing both ends of the spectrum, I'll take the holding power at rated speed any day!! Other than being a nice handling tractor that is easy to steer, I sure don't see where the 4020 gets it's "glorious" reputation! Tom langan

You pull a 5 shank 20" deep with a 7020 with easeIJ I have a 4W-220 that labors (4MPH) with a 5 shank 18" deep. Must be different soil types there. 4W-220 (n56 of 175 made) handles 30 foot disc fine 5" deep 6 MPH but the ripper is an anchor at 4 MPH. No wonder thy quit building them bend-in-the-middle 220's. That thing must run good. Would that 301 block fit in the 4WIJIJIJIJIJhmmmmmmmmmmmm

Fairly heavy soil here (clay to silt loam),was running 3-4 mph and bringing up clods the size of basketballs the first year. Definitely wanted the seat belt on or I would have looked like a Pug! The Second season pulled with many less fast stops. Sure knew where the cattle had walked for years and the main field tracks. Would be running just fine and find a spot and pop a wheelie while the Traction booster adjusted. The fact it is a 3pt rig might be the difference, I have heard the trailing V-ripper pull much harder. But the gauge wheels are set at 22" above the points and it pulls right down on them. The 8050FWA hardly knows it's there, no jerks of the 2 wd. The 7020 didn't like the 4 bar Para-til I demo'd.

The 7020 is the 301cid intercooled, the 8010 was the newer 7010 without the intercooler. 7020=2950_649I 8010=649T.

The ripper I was using on the 4W-220 was a 3 point. But it was a 5 knife inline (Mulchmaster}and some people say they pull a little harder than a "V". I fell anything under 5 MPH is a "hard" pull and I prefer to run faster to prevent excessive wear on components of the drive train. The draft control word fine but it would stop the tractor at times. The tractor is equiped with 18.4X38 factory axle duals and I really didn't have enough tractor for the job. PS: An 8070 is just a sawed-off 4W-220! steve

I have only good things to tell you of the greatest tractor ever made. That is the AC 8070 FWA_PS. We have two of them with around 3200hrs. They plant and cult., but where they shine is pulling wagons. One pulls two 5500 Parkers and the other pulls two 625 Parkers. Up and down hills, shift after shift, year after year. When you get onto it, you can shift up or down very smoothly. Just watch the tach. Things to look for, if PS, is 2nd gear high and 6th gear low the same speed. If so 5th gear will wine alittle in both low and high range. In the later ones, a gear change was made,and the noise went away. Is the throtle lever on the outside of the dash or at your right sideIJ There is a kit to put it at your side and you will like it there much more. The hydraulics will run a spray pump. Ours have for years. They will cut out if you run another lever, but it is only for a second while you make a change to the boom height.Change the filters often, and take good care of her, she is quite a lady. S.N.1001-1003 are 1981,1004-1429 are 1982,1430-2089 are 1983,2090-2902 are 1984, and 2903-3354 are 1985.

Just curious, what is the HP on the 8070IJ I have a 7050 that I've used to pull a 100' Flexicoil sprayer for years, in fact I'm on the 2nd sprayer. Hydraulic driven pump on sprayer and no problems running it with the 7050.

Well, the 7060 will pull a 30' fallowmaster sweep plow no more than 5.5mph in plowed ground. I dont think that is normal. I agree the allis' have their HP, but torque is the key to pulling, they rap out and run out of torque after you finally find the horsepower. Our 4240 has twice the hours of either allis and is a much easier to run machine and will blow the 7020 away. Ive always thought they should pull better, i think they're in pretty good shape though, but i have nothing to compare them to.

In our area a 30' Fallow Master is a good sized load for a modern 200 hp front wheel assist tractor with the newer high torque motors. Along about the 80's, all of these engines got the torque put in them and it has been steadily increasing but there was a big initial jump in torque in the 80's. Kelly

If you have a 4240 blowing a 7020 away then you have a sick 7020. When I got my 7020 backed down to factory specs, it was still out pulling (not blowing away)the neighborhood 4430_4440s with the same size implements. And it would blow the 4450's away because they weren't getting traction(JD Wheel Hop). JD screwed up somewhere after the 40 series because of the low traction(Wheel Hop) "Bucking Bronco" effect. Three neighbors have traded back to the 40 series from newer because of ride and slippage.
