Although the first bi-rotor concept used an Axial Flow machine as the "donor" chassis, there was nothing IH about it. Yes, Deere did by the Patents for the Bi-Rotor. Here are some photos of the last prototype, the XBR2

Anything is possible. The companies build all kinds of prototype designs, and then weed them out as they have difficulties with various conditions. They settle on what is a compromise for a large range of crops and conditions, and then add the specialty accessories.Rotors have been experimented with for possibly 50 years.Other things enter into the equation such as longevity of the parts in a certain design, and how much it will cost to produce. They want to put out a machine at the lowest cost to the company stockholders, and still last a reasonable amount of time.

Read the book "Dream Reaper" Talks all about the inventors and so forth and all the design ideas that were in it. Authors last name is something like Canine. Its not a bad book to read either. Pretty interesting about the farming industry and reaper wars.
