Combines agco buys Ag Chem

Brand

I don't know a single fact about the profitability of each brand, but I'm going to give an opinion anyway. AGCO's heritage in the U.S. is A-C and Gleaner, so I can be pretty sure that they will never dump those brands. Other than at the Farm Progress show I have yet to see a post-1990 model Massey tractor greater than 100 hp anywhere in Illinois, and I have worked the whole state. There are quite a few Allis tractors around and a few Whites. Same goes for combines. The newest Massey I see is an 850 or 860. I will always believe that if AGCO went back to the Allis Chalmers name and logo that they would be a bigger player in the future. Buyers will always think of innovation when they see the A-C name. A few lemons, of course, but I guarantee that Massey's reputation in the high-hp tractor market will stain them forever. I can only speak for the corn and soybean country in Illinois, and maybe there's a bit of prejudice on my part, but that's how I see it.

All you have to do is pick up a Agco annual report and look at the pie graphs,White,Allis and Gleaner put together make up roughly about 4% of total Agco sales, thats it.Just look it up for yourself.

I have seen the annual report - I'm a large stakes stockholder in AGCO (5 shares! It's my nest egg!) and I get their annual report in the mail. The graph you talk of represents their TOTAl sales worldwide - not just in North America. Massey is admittedly a big seller in foreign countries but I sure would like to see a graph comparing sales by brand here in the U.S.! I think the red piece of the pie would look a bit slim!

If you have seen the graph then you know how little your almighty Gleaner,White and Allis sell, they don't,so why not just let them die. There is no such thing as a White or Allis tractor, there MASSEY tractors built in a Massey plant painted differant colours,on thier own they wouldn't last a month. The Gleaner rotory is a good product I'm told but who cares, paint it red and sell a few more.Did you ever look in the almighty blue book and see how much money you would loose on resale value on a Gleaner in couple years, its significant, much more than anything else.Ask Agco how many Agco Stars they have sold, have they built any in the last couple years.Who would buy something that looks like a White 4-180.Agco running with all these differant divisions looks like a nickel and dime company and they know it,changes are a coming.

Oh, you mean nickel and dime like General MotorsIJ Proctor and GambleIJ NestleIJ Quaker OatsIJ Yea, I see what you mean! They all sell products under different names. It's pretty obvious by the number of posts on here compared to the Massey board how popular Masseys are. As for the tractors, they may be made in what was a Massey mfg plant, but the engineering is all AGCO - show me a previous Massey with the Funk trannyIJ The current tractors are a completely new design - they didn't take a Massey line and just start painting them silver or orange. Besides, coming on here talking trash about AGCO is like shooting yourself in the foot - we are all part of the same family. Go spread your message to the other red guys and the green ones. Have a happy Thanksgiving and give thanks that AGCO bailed your company out.

Come to Batavia New York and I will show you a 1999 8280 Massey Ferguson that plants corn with a 16row kinze, cultivates with a 12row lorenzo, and carts grain with a 840 Kinze cart.
