Obviously I am Canadian. Just as obvious is the fact that you have no idea what level of subsidies are in Canada compared to the U.S. Your U.S. Farm Bill dwarfs anything - total or per capita, however you want to measure it - we have got. All America seems to believe is that if something is coming in cheaper from somewhere else, "they must be cheating." Then all of your bullying tactics can be somehow justified. Canada is not subsidizing wheat exports and the grain industry. About the only break I can think of is that we don't pay as high a tax on diesel as commuters do. Canada used to subsidize rail freight. Not any more. Since the U.S. blocked Canadian beef exports, there have been some emergency funds set up, but there was no subsidy before May, 2003. If you think America is not clearly in the wrong, and clearly protectionist and hyprocrital in agricultural policy, I would love for you to dig up what ever information on Canadian and American subsidies you can find. I don't think you would want to argue any more because I would win any debate. The facts are on my side. Americans seem to think that trade is only fair if it works in your favour and it is blatantly wrong. I openly challenge you to compare our systems and then tell me how American trade policy is fair.
