Talk to Monsanto about that one. The Canadian gov't certainly doesn't subsidize our chemical purchases.

Ya we get subsidies everywhere we turn here in canada because agriculture is such big issue with our government... if only... instead we have ag ministers saying things like "we can afford to lose a few small farmers" (federal ag minister) and that "farmers should leave the farm and get real jobs" (provincial ag minister) Or maybe that deisel fuel subsidy we are getting in manitoba... the one where they taxed diesel fuel more to balance the budget. D.A.S. we should go apply together... we could be the only 2 in canada who know about it.. some money might actually make it passed administration and onto the farm. Ed

I was told by a Canadian trucker that they are getting 42cents deisel fuel subsidy from the canadian goverment, he was hauling case and new hollad heads down here from Saskatoon. So that leads me to beleive that the farmers must be getting the same if not, you people have a real problem there,, Good luck.

42 cent diesel subsidy......so you must be paying around 90-95 cents a litre. I don't think so. We're paying around 50 cents a litre for farm diesel fuel. Still too much. I have to agree that us Canucks have cheaper Roundup but you can blaim Monsanto for that. I have some USA based customers and they can't understand how we make a go of it in Canada. The grain marketing system sucks and the gov't don't give a rats a$$ about the farmers. I would give my left nut (and maybe the right one too) to have a farm subsidy package that the US farmer has.

Obviously I am Canadian. Just as obvious is the fact that you have no idea what level of subsidies are in Canada compared to the U.S. Your U.S. Farm Bill dwarfs anything - total or per capita, however you want to measure it - we have got. All America seems to believe is that if something is coming in cheaper from somewhere else, "they must be cheating." Then all of your bullying tactics can be somehow justified. Canada is not subsidizing wheat exports and the grain industry. About the only break I can think of is that we don't pay as high a tax on diesel as commuters do. Canada used to subsidize rail freight. Not any more. Since the U.S. blocked Canadian beef exports, there have been some emergency funds set up, but there was no subsidy before May, 2003. If you think America is not clearly in the wrong, and clearly protectionist and hyprocrital in agricultural policy, I would love for you to dig up what ever information on Canadian and American subsidies you can find. I don't think you would want to argue any more because I would win any debate. The facts are on my side. Americans seem to think that trade is only fair if it works in your favour and it is blatantly wrong. I openly challenge you to compare our systems and then tell me how American trade policy is fair.
