Combines auto header height

I'm only working from memory,but here goes.Drive the front tires on blocks or position the feeder over a ditch.lower the feeder all the way.If the feeder cyls. are not all the way in,unplug the feeder pot at the top lH sideof the feeder.This will allow you to fully lower the feeder.Now shut off the combine,but leave the key on.plug the pot back in and check the voltage on the blue wire of the feeder pot with a digital meter and straight pin at the connector. Voltage should be .6 to .8 volts. Adjust the linkage (usually shorten] to get this reading.I sometimes have to cut the rod and rethread it.Case says to move the pot in the housing,but that is a pain.Now you have to recalibrate the controller.This is done exactly as the ops manual says. this will teach it the new setting.Make sure there is no linkage binding with the feeder up.Now reinstall the grain head and recalibrate,as you mentioned in your post.this should fix the problem. buck, when you say you hold switch for 2 sec on up side, you have to hold switch for header raise till gets all the way up. Should raise part way stop for an instant and then raise rest of way, this is for controller to find working range of potentiometer on header.

do you have a good ground connection IJ

I believe you need to change the pod on the platform.

I'm not sure if this applies to your situation or not but when I changed my 820 over to my 1688 I had to reverse the polarity of pot in order to make the auto header operate correctly. The symptoms that you describe sound almost exactly like the problem I had but I was under the impression that the polarity problem didn't apply to the 1020 head. Dean

The pot. that you need should be a clear one. By that I mean you can see the wires thru the plastic coating of the pot. On older 1600's combines the BlACK pot. is required. I had to change one out last year to make it work on my 1991, 1660 Jack.
