Combines bi pass machinery link

I was originally from west central Mn, currently live in Iowa. I beleive that Machinery link was getting combines from Walterman Implement in Dike, IA. The roll combines all come back after harvest to be completely serviced before going to the next guy. No need to worry about maintainence or storage, sounds like a sweet deal to me! I was told he rolls like 450 combines each year. Hope this helps.

I researched m.link before we bought new..... After reading articles in magazine's and getting a quote from the link, things did not add up. One guy said he ran a combine for around 7-8$_ acre.....Unless he had extremely poor yeilds and a 40' header, (can you do that if all wheatIJ),If it was all corn_bean, im gonna call him a flat out liar! Guys on machinery talk were talking around 12_acre to roll 88's from walterman, some had not so good reviews. Not to bad, if your acres stay the same. I guess my question is: Why not just buddy up with a southern guy, and buy together one machineIJ Pay to haul it back and forth, with certain maintenence agreements. Maybe a bad idea, just wondering if anyone "bi-passed" machinery link and did the work themselvesIJ

I checked Machinery link out last year also when we were looking into going together with another farmer on a combine. We both agreed it was too high. I don't think a north south connection would work out so good. I think most of what machinery link does is more northeast, midwest. Think wheat, then grains. Chads

Yeah it's being done. I'm in the PNW and there are several guys out here that bypassed Ml and are trading combine back and forth with guys in MN and IA. They buy new combines every year and trade them in at the end of the season so there always using fresh iron. It must work because the've been doing it for 5 years now. Dean

We roll a 2366 from Walterman's for a little under $9_acre, I'm not sure what the cost difference is between a 66 and an 88 but if it's costing a guy $12_acre they must not be running alot of acres through it. We have at least 7 other combines from Walterman's in our area (within 20 miles) and while they aren't perfect overall everybody is happy with them. We haven't found any other way to keep a late model combine with a warranty for a comparable price. We did look into machinery link but they were only dealing in 88 sized combines and unless we went with a 30' platform and a 12 row corn head to keep the hours down it was going to cost quite a bit more than Walterman's.
