my tip, give a closer look to the european market, they have to handle more straw and more crops with high power. A combine which is good on these situation will be very good in the us market. The STS is working very good with less corn lose and is running faster than any other brand.

We have a small grains special CTS II. We don't grow any corn or soybeans. I don't know how the CTS does in corn compared to the STS but for small grains, I think the CTS is the better design.

Sorry, my fault! STS must be CTS, there is no STS running in my area, but a lot of CTS! Sorry

What region are you located in. Rice countryIJ. We are the only one in our area with a CTS. We farm in northern Montana.

Im located in Germany, where we have a lot of straw and crops, I suppose more than you do.

A lot of rifles and canons have groves in the barrel called riflings. They make the bullet spin while it is pushed out of the barrel. A similar thing happens to a grain kernel when it is pushed threw a rotor. The turning of the rotor puts the kernel in a spining movement around the rotor while it gets pushed out of the end of the rotor so fast that it doesn't fall through the grates. That's why you have to slow downn the rotors for corn. But if the grates are wrong, slowing down alone doesn't do it.

With the right grades and concave a 480 lexion would outcut an STS anytime.

Henk, STS stands for Single Tine Separator. The JD STS runs in Europe mostly as the 9880 STS. CTS stands for Cylinder Tine Separator. This is the same setup like a 470 lexion. The CTS was and is JD's best combine and is still preferred by combine experts who can afford to buy one. It has the concave and cylinder proven for decades in the 20s series, the 9500 and 9600. It was good in wheat and corn. With the rotor separation JD eliminated the walker loss problem, that they fought since the 20s series.

Dakota What do you base your comment on the lexion not performing in America. The 480 is identicale in design to the CTS except for the APS cylinder.Besides being larger the 480 also does'nt have the beater problem with green stemed soybeans the CTS does.
