I was driving by a farm this morning and I saw a cow rubbing his back on this round brush like apparatus. It was attached to the outside of the barn. Is this a normal thing to have?

Yes, it's probably the brush from a street sweeper. Cows love to rub themselves on them.

It's very normal. Cows get itches too.
I don't know what it is about cows, but seeing them do that is the only thing that makes them seem like normal animals to me. They just lack personality and scratching themselves gives them a sort of personality. I guess.

We have a couple of these in our barn. The cows love it! I agree, they are like humans with certain tendencies. A lot of animals have quirky personalities.

Very interesting, it is the first time I noticed it. I have been paying more attention to local farms since I joined this group. I'm going to keep my eyes open to see if other farms have them too.
