Thanks for pointing that out. I went back to take a closer look. Now I see the difference between low and high wire grate floors too. We have a 1990 R50(R5055) Hawk series s_n 3158 with low wire floor. Before removing the rotor I measured the clearance between rotor and cage, I found 1". The height of a rotor rasp bar is 1 1_4" by 2 1_4" wide, the spacing between grate bars is 1 1_2". I cut 1_2" from each side of wide spaced (corn) bars.(Grind off the chrome where you intend to cut with a torch) When dropped in place the height is now 5_8" above floor level. I seriously doubt this plan would work with a high wire grate. I don'tknow how far down the wire is below floor level. If it's 1_4" the result, my best guess, would be 0" clearance. A P1 reverse wide space rotor bar(new rasp height is 3_4" or less) cut to fit might be a better idea. I also took a closer look at the first picture on page 1 of the thresher grate. Notice the kernals of corn wedged between the rasps. Correct me if I'm wrong but that looks like a standard 7_16" spacing. In that case, even all forward bars can act like they're worn flat. Kinda like the difference between snow tread and highway tread driving in snow, when the tread is full, the tire's bald. I hope this helps.

Thanks Dan for the info - I will keep your post for doing this in summer and will call if I need some parts. Thanks again.

low narrow wire seperator grate would have wires set down from top of cross bar a strong 3_8" and high wide wire a strong 1_4". The fore aft ribbing that acts as a wire in a few places may be some up or down from wires. May want to grind ribbing even with wires if fastening a bar there. You may want to adjust your numbers a bit. The high wide wire grates were only available in the adjustable version so you could adjust away from cylinder some if fastened more like in 5:00 position. You'll have to check it out and let us know how it works out. I agree completely with you on rasp bars that are to narrow. With rasps to close or plugged with crop it acts like nothing other than a beater bar. Take care and good luck.

Found something out today that may be of interest to you. I went around and measured the height on some new P3 bars in bin and like new reverse take outs. They were all chromed and measure 1 1_16" to 1 1_8" not the 1 1_4" you mentioned. That may work out better for you with less worries of being to close to rotor. Good luck
