Chickens as first animals

My nephew has asked if he can get some chickens and keep them at the farm. Wonder if he will come and take care of them. Also think it would be a great way to get him more interested in farming.

I think it is a great idea to let him have chickens. Does he live close so that he can come over daily? I'm assuming they don't live on a farm so it would be nice for him.

Chicken are great animals to start with, and I would prefer that he commences with a few of them to gain some experience. Like @pseag says, it will be beneficial to know how much time he's willing to devote in a day.

I told him last night that he could. We are just going to do a few to start. Certainly hope that he spends a lot of time and doesn't bore of them. It would be great to have another farmer in the family.
