I'm sorry to hear that, been there. I have a 963 red head, but I took my side wings off and painted the snoots with graphite slip-plate, it worked amazingly well

There was alot of downed corn in this area and they used a corn reel that I heard did a good job.I think it was made by Minden Machine in Minden Ne 3088320220

Kelderman is a good reel.Yes they will get the corn in the combine,used one a few years back, corn completely flat, got it, but you will stiil go really slow, but a least the head keeps feeding.

kederman works but i coud'nt handle the dirt plugged drop on clean grain elevator sapped belts broke chains bent shafts its been a long year

We used one a few years back and was happy with it. Had some down corn this year but didn't use the reel just took off the ear savers and the stalks slid right in. We have a JD 643 head on the l3 which I think may work better than a Gleaner head but I'm not sure. I found out that in fields where the corn was very down and laying lengthways of the rows it worked better to pick it crossways. We got almost all the corn going accrost the rows where going with the rows we got very little. Good luck Oh also remember to set the points down lower than normal and you can also run the gathering chains backwards which makes them much more agressive.

I would forget using bean head to get corn. We tried it several years back before reels were common. Had so much dirt on first 5 acres we threw away the corn....it will throw root balls and all in if any root lodging happened when corn went down. Sorry to hear about your problem.

I feel your pain but forget the bean head and go with a corn reel. You are not going to go real fast but it is amazing how much corn you will recover. We had flat corn six years ago and I built my own reel, I still have all the parts and hope I never have to use it again. The bracket I left on the corn head reminds me every fall to be thankful for a good stand. Pete Hinrichsen

Dennis - For what it is worth, I harvested more down corn this fall than any other. When faced with the worst case scenario, I take off all of the ear savers and entirely coat the snoots with liquid graphite (slip-plate). This helps a bunch to get the stalks to flow in, especially as I position the tips of the snoots to be just skimming the ground. Your speed will be slower than normal, but that's the best info I can offer. Wish you well Sir!
