Dakota, Why don't you try a 2388 next time, or if you really need the capacity, an R75 or the big MasseyIJ I think each of these machines has strong and weak points, but could probably be made to work pretty well for you. Have you ruled any of these outIJ If so, whyIJ Just curious.

We would love to try 2388s, if we could afford another swich. They seem to have very nice people, it is a proven machine and has probably the most after market parts and alterations available. We have tried to go red before but couldn't afford it then. The Massey, I think is another one of those hit and miss trials. Also I haven't heard anything negative about it so far. Gleaner is pretty much ruled out because of things in the very past. I enjoyed your comment about the digital camera over on the CASE site. Your run an axial flow, rightIJ

Yea, we have a '90 1680 that we bought new and just picked up a '96 2188. They seem to hold their value pretty well, and if you get them configured for the crop they do a nice job. Not a really heavy built machine, but probably ok most of the time. like any rotary, they need more hardware tweeks than a conventional, but it pays off in capacity.

Why rule the gleaners out they are very simple machines and very hungry. As for the older ones they have had problems the new ones have fixed that. As for class they have yet to prove them selves yet... they were here as the green classes and fords and massey and even in the cat colors. Not a very good track record if i might add. The gleaners have been silver for over 75 yrs and are a proven machine...

you better look again the gleaner market share is second only to the green machines,in new combine sales. the agco combine sales are up something like 40% this year, it has been groing steadily since the mid 90's

Well, it's like I said, there are reason way back, when Deutz was screwing things up. That, by the way, was another German company that came over here and thought they could tell the Amrican farmer how it's done. Deutz went about broke on that one and had to get completely out of the ag business. I know that Gleaner is doing fairly well right now and I wish they can keep growing. Customer service is one of the main things, that make or break a company.

Gleaner is second is salesIJ Can you please back up your post with facts from a creditable source. I was under the assumption that Case was second behind JD.

I am looking for the report to post here, I believe it was on the successful farming site. I swear that the number listed there show that on a global basis the leader is New Holland (separate from Case),then JD, Case, Gleaner and the others.
