Tony I unloaded my New J.D tractor I really did not want my engine ripped apart on a brand new machine. And everybody thought the 8010 was a joke. I bet J.D wished all they had to deal with were the issues of the 8010 now.

Careful now, boys. I enjoy a good laugh as much as the next guy, but I'd be really careful about bragging up the 8010 just yet. I'd be one of the last to defend JD, but the STS, despite its many flaws, is still a machine that will stay in the field far longer than an 8010. I would not want to venture a guess as to which company is spending _ has spent more to fix their problem: JD with the crankshafts or CaseIH with the 8010s getting updates each and every year. Both big bills!!!

The reason "us" green owners are quiet is because we're happy with the service we're getting. Mistakes happen with All colors, and Deere has never "balked" at providing solutions to thier mistakes. They took my 8.1 in for replacement, even though it never blew (at 460 hours). It seems they've traced some "potentially" problematic engines through the serial numbers.

Good point, MG. I agree with you on the Deere issue. They want to keep their image clean, so are not going to make a big deal of this. All the other companies have had their share of problems now and then. it really shows up big when a company with such an impeccable record for the past 40 years has a big stumble, but as you have said, deere is at least fixing the problem. I and some others over on the Axial-Flow page, have mentioned we don't take cruel pleasure from this issue about Deere. I happen to love John Deere's combines as much as any other. I'd really like to see another company have their turn at the head of the market, but as long as Deere provides a good product and good service for at least most people, they can also just stay right where they are, too. Not everyone will want the green combine, but then, not all colors fit all crops_conditions best, either. Good luck with your combine, Mostly green, and have a great 2006 harvest!

Harvester, I really like the STS.' I've seen them perform in local conditions, but not over the long-haul. Still, I don't hear of the farmers or custom harvesters beating down the doors at the deere housesto see who's first in line to dump their "lemon" combines. Now I did see a lot of that on at least one other make, some 22 years ago. Nowadays, that same make is one of the most respected names in "combinedom." I just wish Deere would come out from behind their "spin" and just say what the STS really, is--a rotary. If an STS is not a rotary, I'm the Queen of England. lOl!

Read the what it says on the side of the 2006 models, that should answer your question! Happy New Year to all!

Wheaty, clue me in. There are no 2006 Deere combines around here to look at.

Oh, okay. I thought maybe there was somehing like a paper placarded on them from the factory [like the way they used to do some years back]openly stating all the improvements or revamped warranties Deere had for their new combines. If I can ever get to a farm show, maybe I could see a new John Deere combine. At least stating "bullet rotor" is a heavier implication they are actually rotary and not just some spin name like "STS." lOl!
