Thanks for the report, lbran! Ain't very often a person gets a chance to do this - usually the closest we get is blowing by them across a fenceline or something! One of our competitors for custom work in this area runs a 2366. I've never been impressed with what he does in small grains but he does an excellent job in corn. He doesn't loose much grain but the Axial literally chews the straw to dust. A lot of guys around here grow oats only for the straw for dairy bedding. I also think Gleaner should find a quicker way to put on and take off the straw spreader. We do it several times a season and it would be nice to be able to do it without tools. For those of you who windrow straw - we made a "slide" that we add below the straw discharge to put the windrow over about a foot so it sits on stubble rather than dropping in the wheel tracks - helps straw to dry faster. Am open to ideas as how to make a wider windrow from a rotary Gleaner too. They make such a tight little windrow that straw takes forever to dry and if it gets rained on, UGH!! Tom l.
