Hmmm, I guess their is no point in going on about such an entrenched system even though I know how bad it is for us and the world so I will wish you a good season ahead without too many problems.

Dakota, I hate to see harvesters going broke but do we really want a government subsidy for harvesters. Government does not hand out money without a lot of strings attached to it. last year every acre of wheat I usually cut in South Dakota was made into hay because it was so poor. This year I expect to loose most, if not all, of what I cut in Western Kansas because of the drought out there. I may go broke, but I would rather go broke than take a government subsidy, and then have somebody in Washington tell me how to run my combines, when to run my combines, how many hours a day I can run my combines, and who I can cut for. K.A.

Interesting that all you guys are having state budget problems, too. Oklahoma seems to be having a bad time here. The prospect of more surplus grain, no matter what you plant, and excess meats, chicks, beef, pork, seems to be a sad omen for producers. The USA strong dollar hurts us more than other countries. USA is buying meats out of Australia and the shipping costs still allow the Aussy beef to be cheaper than USA. Sad situation. We are dependent upon bad weather elsewhere to help our own market. Now, if AGCO , JD, and all the rest will keep repair parts $ down. Thanks for your thoughts, guys.

Have you read any stories in the non-agricultural press about packers expanding offshore to avoid restrictions on packer ownership of livestockIJ In addition to a strong dollar, US livestock producers are hurting themselves by asking for more govt involvement in their business. You might ask why do I care about the livestock industry. I raise corn and soybeans that go into animal feed and a strong livestock market is necessary for my continued profitable existence. Good comments, Some of the packers are going to other countries. Farm Journal has a major article on how the packers will leave USA if this ownership ban is passed. I think that may help our environment some since the big packers are the ones usually with the huge hog house_lagoons that are causing so much trouble. The smaller farmer who wishes to work hard can possibly get back into the business. It will be bad if the packers close the doors to packing houses here. Both the ghog_beef feeres and you and I will be in trouble as we will lose markets internally. Article in paper over hormones and how Europe has data that is not positive for homone produced beef_hogs_poultry. If we have to export all this stuff, and if it is GMO, we are in serious trouble. No easy answers. labelled home grown foods are a major market, yet the consumer wants the lowest price available. So do you and I. However, I will pay a little more for quality. OEM parts may be better for repair although short line parts cost less. The quality factor is here. Until the strength of the $ lessens, we will have a hard time competing with other countries. Since we are producers, the lower value $ is desired. AS a consumer, the strong $ is desired. looks like we lose since we lack votes. The battle of production is less important now as we shift to marketing. Where and how we accomplish this will help dtermine the future of we farmers. Oh, sorry I got off on non-combine topics. Hope you might think in another realm for a while. Happy harvesting- I have the R62 and I cut about 110 acres of wheat each summer with it. Good luck.

Unit 2, I agree 100% with you. I was just pointing out the injustice of government who gives gifts to some in the country. I'd rather have no subsidies anywhere and nobody dictating my life even if I go broke. But in a free world I could get back on my feet quickly, too without having to pay several attorneys and accountances to take care of the government caused paper work.

Sorry guys, I cut 1100+ acres each year. R62 would be a little overkill for only 110 acres.

The number of acres everyone does in a year would make an interesting topic. lets try it when everyone isnt in the field.
