You do have a point. However, compare the fuel and property taxes of a $1,000,000 per year farm (gross) to a $1,000,000 per year convenience store. Don't forget vehicle license and tonnage to haul your crop. Here in WA, I pay just over $300 per month for the license and tonnage for ONE truck. Your state may be cheaper, but here it is pretty steep to keep the Governor paid.

I agree. In some cases, it would be cheaper to give these huge farmers $35k per year for doing nothing than $200k for what is often poor management practices. What really torques me is when I see a farmer who just milks the system... I once heard a very successful farmer (never accepted a farm subsidy payment) say that one day in the fall was worth three in the spring. Another farmer I know had some ground that had poor drainage... but rather than ditching or working the land in the fall to get it conditioned and prep'ed for the spring, he'd be at all the football games, and what not, having a good time. Next spring, the field would of course be a mess. His only concern was to get the planter through before the June deadlines. If nothing came up or it didn't mature before frost, he didn't care. To me, this is criminal.

Big difference though... they generally knew the diffence between the enemy and the innocent... plus, every one was behind the war effort. Although a larger percentage of America supported the Afghanistan effort, less than half of America supported the Iraqi invasion. Plus, we were greatly mislead about Iraq by the GOP and the media talking heads.

Corect me if I am wrong but every farm that has a base and a established yeild collects a payment on a per acre base no matter if it is 1 acre or 10,000 acres so every farmer collects a payment and yes the large farm collects more dollars but in percentage its the same.

Exactly right FR, unless these "little guys" were to lazy to sign up for the farm program in the first place. Thats the only way you get left out.

News to me: 1. Clinton is a GOP memberIJ 2. Kerry is a GOP memberIJ They both argued the same thing as the GOP agianst Sodam. They both said that Iraq had wmds. lets talk about the "media talking heads" who put out a story about a President with out doing any research to see if it was wrong. Beat they did not do that in WW2. What ever everyone else believes I would rather have the fighting going on accross the sea on their soil and not over here. May its true what they say about Americans, They have the shortest memory on the plantet.

There are many farmers that do not choose to be a ward of the government.
