We've installed a couple sets on the 7" drums to prevent the chain from jumping over the guide flange that is there now. In some conditions the chain wants to slip over the currant guide and the new guides have fixed that problem. And yes they will prevent chewing up your drum. I like the looks of them and the '98 and '99's have given us no problem. Thanks be to Gleaner for the new W'ring guide flanges. Amen. Dan
