Combines Fuel tank

Ewen Mosby of Hartney, Manitoba, Canada makes a fuel tank that fits behind the shield on the right hand side at the back. It is plumbed into the original tank and is out of sight so does not change the appearance.

Go buy some black window sealer in a tube to fit a calk gun. It's a rubber type stuff that most auto windsheilds are installed. I believe it's the same thing your 8030 glass is installed with but I got mine from an auto parts store. Clean good, sand and put on a heavy coat trying to force some in the crack. Make sure it is real clean and dry or it won't stick. I repaired the main tank on my 8030 that way and it worked great. The previous owner tried fiber glass patch and it did not work because it wouldn't flex. Good luck and HAPPY NEW YEAR !! David

Thanks for suggestion. How big of a break did you fix with the window sealantIJ Why do these plastic parts have to cost so muchIJ

I guess the cut was about 3 to 4 inches long in the side close to the channel. I covered an area probably 10 inches in diameter. It was about a third of the way up from the bottom. looked like the tire might have kicked something up into it. It has been a few years since I fixed it. I have no idea why plastic cost so much. You would think since so much stuff is made with plastic and less shipping damage and weight it would be priced lower.

Is window sealer fuel resistant, or will it turn into silly putty after a few yearsIJ I tried JB on a tank once and it lasted a year before the fuel got to it. There are fuel tank sealers of various kinds at auto parts stores. You might find some help there.

The plastic in the components are a minor cost. The major cost is the manufacturing process and transport. Its not uncommon for molds to cost $100,000++ each. Factor in the items such as fuel tanks are relatively small volume items,yet bulky ,and the unit price for a mold increases greatly. You've probably got $5( if that ) worth of actaul plastic in a fuel tank, the rest is mold cost, labour , transport and mark-up,etc.

Okay, let say it cost 100k to make a mold of this tank. If you have a production run of 5000 units plus parts inventory that mold costs you $20 per tank. I understand that if you had to build a few tanks from scratch to fill a parts order that it would cost $800 but somewhere that mold still exists or somewhere tanks are wharehoused from past production runs. This sort of thing is what drives people to the green stuff. AGCO is shooting itself in the foot by charging these prices just because they can. Captive customers remember when they are taken advantage of. Why buy something that has limited production numbers like an AGCO unit and risk not being able to maintain it because parts are unreasonable. Allis, no doubt, farmed this tank out to begin with. I have heard that factories triple the price of any subcontractor item and resell it. The only thing that keeps them honest is competition from after-market.

What does a tank cost to fit a green machineIJ My experince with green parts is just as high priced except those you have to keep a truck load of to get crops done. I think every body has some outragous priced parts and some not so bad. The mark up from supplier's is to much but they are not providing the warrenty in most cases. From the after market parts I have used most high wear parts only last half as long and a few last just as good.It's like farming a big gamble.
