Combines future of the 2388s

Good question! I was wondering why at this past farmfest, case displayed a 2388, and in 03 had 8010IJ Salesman told me that "7010" had no more capacity than 2388, but was allot more $$$$$$. Just rumor, i have nothing to back it up. We a pleased with 2388, but is getting out-dated.

2388 might be out of date (i don't feel that way honestly) great cab very dependable.. Great combine all around... And yeah they decided the 7010 was kinda dumb cause the 2388 with the afx rotor did the same capacity wise i hope they keep makeing the 2388's for a long time untill they get the new bigger one's figured out and just as good as the 23's

Just as an item of interest, am wondering how many that are considering a new machine in the next several years would react if the 2388 was dropped in favor of only a 7010 or 8010 option. From my perspective , I think CaseIH would lose a lot of new market share if the 2388 is dropped in the near future.

Really can't see them dropping the 2388's. They just set up production for them. They are a solid machine and a product that generates a solid profit for CHN.

Well, I'll tell you, they're going to lose me if they don't start competing with JD pretty soon. The 2388 is fine for you guys who want to hire more help and buy and run a grain cart all over the field. I need something that will hold 400 bu. like the JD will with extensions and be able to unload it in a hurry like the JD can. That way I can usually make a round in 1_2 mile rows with an 8 row corn head. I want lighting like the JD has. I want to detach the heads without all the oily mess and extra time the 2388 takes. It would be nice to have cab control of the sieves like JD. The 2388 is a great machine for the 1995 era but it has gotten a bit far behind the competition.

Has anyone looked at the possibility of replacing the cage and concaves in the 2388 with the ones in an 8010IJ The rotor is the same size, isn't itIJ I figure that a new style concave and maybe an Airjet Chaffer would add up to a big increase in capacity. Any thoughtsIJ

Marv have you tried the new 8010. I don't think the new JD has any thing on them. The 8010 has all the options you talked about.

They still have engineers in Moline working on 2388 upgrades, machine is suppose to be produced thru 08, these same engineers do not work with the 8010, the reason I know is he is a freind of mine. And when you think about it I don't think CNH can aford all the warranty claims on the 8010s versus the 2388s, that is the combine that is making company the most money, not the 8010 so they are not planning on replacing it in the near future maybe a face lift and a bunch of other good things but it will still be a reliable 2388 under its new makeup.

By the sounds of things you have obviously not demo'd a new AFX8010.....as it has all the features you said you wanted and then some. We put a Crary Big Top on ours to get the added grain tank capacity as well. Unloading rate is 3.0bu_sec versus the Deere9860STS at 3.3bu_sec. Excellent lighting package...much brighter than our 2388's were_are. Header attachment is a single connection...just like Deere came out with. You also have cab control over the seives...and also self levelling sieves come standard with the AFX8010......Deere does not. I'm just not sure an 8row head would work to well though as most guys I've spoke with are running 12row 30", or 16+18row 20" corn heads. Sounds like you could be more interested in the AFX7010 for an 8row corn head....it's being demo'd now but there is still no official time for release_production to begin. Interestingly enough, I was also told by a CaseIH rep to look for a AFX6010 and a AFX9010 in a couple years to "round out" the AFX series combine family.

I think the slotted holes on top of the cage would be a good improvement. I think the 2388 is still the best combine for the money.
