Combines Getting a 1020 to cut clean

This morning I put on a dozen new guards, where the rows would normally come in. Most didn't hardly look worn at all. IT did help on most, but one row still hangs up. Once it gets to the fingers in the middle, it's gone. Today I ran into the problem I heard of earlier, the beans wanted to ride along the front of the auger, intead of going under. How is the gentleman's custom built full finger doing, if he is watchingIJ

West: Have you checked the position of the retractable fingers as farmer R suggested. Mine was like his, it came from the factory 1_4 turn off. I think they need to be fully extended at 7 or 8 o'clock looking at it from the left side. There are 2 wiz nuts under the left header sheild. Just loosen and rotate the pipe. Also if beans are laying on the cross auger and not going in, take a hand grinder and put a square edge on the outer edge of your flighting. Have you checked the register of the sickle in relation to the guards I assume there's slots under the wobble boxs although I've never had to move mine. You've probably checked these already but sometimes these little things can make a big difference. Good luck! CW

Hello WI, Just want to answer your question about the FUll finger auger that I have installed in my auger. I have been harvesting now a full 2 days with it. The FUll finger auger WIll elimate the bunching of beans and will feed in more even. I have been raising my reel any where from 2" to 7" above the sickle. What is so nice about this is that when I harvest thru a low washed out area I raise the reel some so I won't cut any teeth off. With that in mind I don't have to worry about the feeding problem ether. If soybeans are tall and leaning toward me, I will raise the reel to the height where the slotted bracket will start raising the auger. NO KIDDING. The best part is my father is also driving and NOW is raising the reel. Jack in Minnesota.

Jack, Any info on the full finger you could provide me would be greatly apprecitated. Unfortunately, all the reel fingers have been snipped off a couple times because I had to rake the crop in, even tho the beans are 3-4' tall. I am done with beans now but am looking to next year

I have this combo and you are exactly right,I would never go back to any other knife system. With my cih 3" knife I would go through about 15 guards and more than that in sections(Yes we have rocks and we all know from doing custom work that not everyone is proficient in there rock-picking abilities as the next guy.With my sch system I have changed 2 sections in the almost 3 seasons of running it and it still cuts like new without any maintenance. I wouldn't go cut hay(hard on the rocktrap drive chain) but with a combination of this knife an air-reel(AWS) and flat stainless steel floor I bet you could!
