Combines Getting an even spread

I filled in on the standard N spreader what i call the quadrants will sheet steel to create more of a cone so the straw slips down to the paddles instead of fighting its way down and out cause its doing a 90 degree turn. We've all done or doing the smooth transition up there in the processor , same at the spreader . Going to make a round cone for it to improve it again i think.(there's a formula out there somewhere on making cones ). Use to lay a thick swath into my left wheel track especially damp not so much anymore. pengs5

Why, it is easy to unplug the rotor on an N. Especially on a hot day.

I think you could split the panel. Just start panel up high enough so it does not create a dam which could let material drop out in clumps or worse yet plug up. If you should ever get the factory dual spreader be sure the spreaders are turning proper direction. I have seen alot of machines with two paddle spreader turning the wrong way. Also many of the two paddle spinners had channels installed backwards. Straw should fall into channel and then spin off by the rubber paddles. That brings something to mind about your single spreader. How about flipping every other channel so some of the straw will slip off sooner. Well I guess that wouldn't do much to fling material to the left but maybe!

I was trying to come up with something similar to the CIH spreader but there does not seem to be enough room. I think the left rear tire would get in the way. The baffle is an interesting concept. Would it work to split the baffle vertically, so that some of the straw would drop short and some follow the normal pathIJ Just some thoughts while working on other projects. John

I can not remember who told me about the baffle but they claimed it surely worked. It only makes sense to me it would work but have never monkeyed around with it. Most of the N6s and 7s ended up with dual spreaders just like the R60 and 70s. Don't know if the single spreader on the newer machines have same problem to any degree but if they did I would go for a panel split vertically like you describe. Sounds like a fine idea just as long as it doesn't hang with any material.
