Combines GlEANER ADVERTISING

I agree. AGCO needs to do a better job of marketing their product. They have the two best designs in the combine industry yet you never see them use good advertisements. I was at the Agriland Expo at Duquoin, Il a few years back and each respresentative talked about their machine. The Gleaner guy said if you look around you will see many ideas that were developed by Gleaner such as a center mount cab, electro over hydraulic and such simple things as a rotary screen. I really enjoy the Gleaner talk page. I just wish some of the AGCO people would pay attention to it.

You make good points. I hate being negative about the job some poor guy is doing because he has a family to feed and all that, but the truth of the matter is AGCO needs some new blood in their ad agency. The current one sucks. Pictures have lots of earth tones instead of bright, inviting colors that make the product look alive. Do you recall the ad some years ago that featured a 4wd tractor and a VW beetleIJ The slogan was, they put a bit of the bug in the beast. I wonder how many customers it scared away. Ditto for AGCOSTAR. The picture looking out the windshield at some stars missed the point. Stars dont sell equipment! AGCO sells equipment in spite of their advertising.

That is why John Deere is number 1 as haaaarrrdd as that is for me to say.Makes my mouth hurt to say that.You have to market your product.Just like there web site way behind everyone else.They have products that will stay with anyones but do a terrible job of marketing those products. I thought the same thing about the Gleaner advertisements I have seen in the magizines latley, are they only for wheat growersIJIJIJIJ No pics in corn or beans.And why we are on the new " 5 series " Why not come up with some new sheet metal and cover up that stupid TURRENT auger super glued on the side. Hey 4-Star, I hear ya and agree to most everything you said(fuel efficiency of the M11IJ). I first traded to the Gleaner back in about '89 because of design and tank capacity (had a good dealer fairly close too),but soon had concerns about the company's commitments to obvious update needs on the machines and inability to convincingly promote the combines, especially to users of other colors. I found myself early on repeating the phrase "The best design in a combine, but wish Green or Red made it." I am very happy with the modified R72 I have now, but have the perplexing problem of soon wanting to trade to a new R75, but hate to face the chore of setting the new one up like mine. Our mission should not be over until the options page on the dealer order book has all the stuff we all have found could be needed. As a company, where is the downside for them to offer the Sunnybrook rotor, for instance, and loewen style sep grate, and fast pitch helicals on a new machine if we want them, factory installedIJ To have these now on a new machine, you end up with a pile of new regular parts that costs thousands and alot of labor to boot. $.02

Ramrod, I agree that there still is alot of work to do in the combine options department. Although, there have been great strides made on the later machines, with mostly all credit due to the dedicated people on this web site. Dealers, farmers, and custom cutters sharing their ideas and communicating with Agco in order to enhance the Gleaner combines performance. From the feeder shocks,extended bars,helicals,and all of the hyperizing ideas; yet an area for the factory to improve would be a full fingered auger,easier access to rotor bars through the cage door. But, overall Agco appears to be on the right track with numerous improvements on the 'Series 5'. Speaking of improvements Agco has updated their website just recently.

It's not just the Gleaner advertising, Agco's idea of merchandising all their products is lacking. They need strong dealers who are willing to demonstrate the new products, once the sale is made Agco should be willing to help improve the machine. like CaseIh does with the updates that are available to keep their combines current ie. fan, rotor, chaffers ect. Dealer's shops are busy and customer's machines hold their resale, it is a win win situation. Wake up Agco, give your customers and dealers the support they need and deserve. Not everyone is like the Gleaner guys who do it on their own. I have to agree with everthing everybody said. If Deere were marketing Gleaner or Massey combines they could not build them fast enough.

Why not have a Gleaner unloading on the go into a grain cart being pulled by an AGCO tractor. You know maybe tie some products together. The old Series 2 brochures always had an R62 with a 6 row cornhead. Give me a break! You wouldn't see a 9650 Deere pushing a 6 row.
