Combines Gleaner K2

The K2 has the 433T_200cid diesel, the same engine as in the 6060-6080 and the F2_3 less the intercooler. It is a small machine and the 3 row head is about it's limit. Nice economical machine for a small acreage. Only about 3000 were made so parts could be an issue. The K2 is a lengthened out E_K.

I have a 78 K2, and so far parts from AGCO have not been a problem. There are aftermarket parts available. I was surprised to find a number of common parts between the F2 and K2. A K2 long-tail can eat more corn than you'd think. I know at least one person pushing a 4 row head with his K2 (that would be Russ SCPA).

Thanks for your input! Do you know if any obvious weak points to look for when inspecting the K2IJ Also any idea on valueIJ

Weak points depend on the number of hours and the condition of use it has received. Since it has not been used for 8 years, drive belts would be the first thing I look at. Being shedded helps, but that's a long time. Engine coolant is probably low, bearings are not going to show themselves until about 1-2 days of harvesting - then watch them carefully! On the lighter side, the K2 is a good solid combine. The corn head and platform is where I would concentrate. They could have worn parts such as wobble box or pitman arm bearings_ball joints for sickle, or bevel gear drives in corn head units. Did your neighbor service it regularlyIJ That's worth a lot. Price for 1978 k2 diesel combine with platform and assuming 1500-2500 hours, air conditioning, heat, and chopper in good condition should be near $4000-$5000. If it has a hydro-fold unloading auger then add $1000 to price. The corn head depends on if its black or orange. If its a newer A330 black w_stripe its worth $2000-$4000. If its 1978 black A330 in good condition it should be worth $1500-$2000. If its orange then it's usually sold with machine_platform at no additional cost. How good of a neighbor is heIJ Best situation - can you pick corn with it for a day then price itIJ Good luck!

Ewbeye, thanks for the response. The seller is an honest guy, and was a very meticulous hobby farmer. I haven't gotten a chance to closely inspect the machine but I'd bet it's in good cond., other than time taking its toll. Wish I could try it out, but all our crops are out for the year, and I believe his are to. I'll keep you posted on what it ends up being worth.

I've been gone a few days. The K2 is basicly a narrowed F2. Just picture 11"s less width. I do push a 4-38" corn head with mine, have been since 79. Over 6,000 hours on machine. Does a nice clean job, just cannot hurry machine at all.

I purchased last fall a 81 K2 Corn Plus long back gasser with hydraulic auger. 330 Black head orange stripe, 13 ft FCB, chopper. 2200 unit hours (last year made I thinkIJ) Was always shedded exc shape. paid $6500 if that helps. Diesels hard to find. Parts no problem ...haven't really needed them!! No problem on front end getting in through....however can't run too fast or you will shake it over the back. Not enough rear end capacity even on the longbacks!

used one for years, great little 3 row machine, only problem you will ever have is keeping the gear shifter adjusted. but its worth the effort.the price is great for the hours. What year is the machine, the later ones had two shifters for the transmission, not sure if they were better or not. I think 1980 or 1981 was the last year. If you buy the machine put after market cylinder bars with the wide space and watch it eat like one of the big boys. Good luck

Thanks for the comments Jake. The machine is one of the last built so I guess it would be an '82.It has hydrostat drive.I don't know if that's good or bad. Would appreciate any comments.

Gleaner did not manufacture the k2 as a hydro that I am aware of. some of these machines were converted for seed corn companies. they also added in bin scale systems. having the hydro is a serious plus.
