Growth By The Tree Stump

I cut down a smallish tree a few years ago (around 6" in diameter) and small growth has been coming up around it ever since. It is unsightly. I have been wetting down the area around it, creating a moat of sorts, so I can get to the roots from underneath. This is turning into quite the project. Yesterday I took a hose with a nozzle attachment to spray out the dirt between the roots to give me more access to the root system.

Any suggestions on where to go from here to get these buggers out of there?

I'm tempted to pour gasoline on it all and start a fire.

Yeah, the tree will try to grow again, which is what you're seeing. Before you burn it, drill some holes in the stump and pour in some saltpeter. It will soften the wood and help it burn.

I've always either dug it up or I've used a stump grinder. Getting rid of trees is hard work, and it's expensive if you have to hire a pro.
