Growth-oriented farmers

Technology continues to alter the agricultural landscape. Changing consumer preferences require farmers to equip themselves accordingly. Also, they should have the flexibility to identify new sources of market demand. How applicable are the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) skills to the modern farmer?

I agree that technology continues to direct how farmers carry out their operations. It is also reshaping the amount of information we can have at our fingertips. For example, farmers need to understand how to meet the demands of millennials. They form the largest demographic groups and may be interested in new ideas like urban agriculture.

There's a big discussion going over in the "crop" section here about automation and I think automation will explode in years to come. A STEM degree would come in handy for that and I bet there's big money in it.
