If you haven't read my other threads I'm planning to get some Duroc or Red Wattle pigs soon. I know that pigs like to escape, so I want to set up a good system. Is hog wire the way to go? It sure seems expensive. If I use that type of fencing will I still need to make it into an electric fence?

You never have to use an electric fence, but I think it will help if you do. Like you said hogs are known for escaping. Plus, they can be pretty defenseless against some predators when they're young.

You're right, hog panels are expensive. They work best if you're planning to pen them into a relatively small space and keep them there. These hogs aren't rotated often. They aren't grazing on pasture, so it will cost more to feed them. They will definitely turn the space into a mudhole. You won't need an electric fence with this option. I've never seen hogs or shoats getting preyed upon. The sows are too fierce. Maybe I've been lucky though.
