How deep are telephone poles buried? I have a 34-foot pole that I need to place. I'm not sure how far I should dig before placing it.

A standard pole is usually 40 ft long and is buried about 6 ft in the ground. Do you intend to use this pole as a telephone pole?

Six feet is a long way to dig. I hope you have the right equipment.

When you get done, I would advise pouring some wet concrete in the hole to help keep it in place.

I assume that @Alphonse doesn't have to dig 6 feet down, considering that the pole he has isn't 40-feet long. Concrete will ensure that the pole is securely in place.

10% of the pole plus an additional 2 feet. It is the only way to be safe. You don't need to put concrete mix if you bury it deep enough. My brother is an electric lineman.
