How much does a combine cost to run and maintain? Is it significantly more (or less) than hiring one?

It depends on many acres you'd use it on as to whether it's better to buy your own or hire it out. Do you have an idea about that?

I prefer renting. It’s just too expensive. But again, as what Urban Homestead said, it should depend on your farm, and the size of business of your farm as well.

Initial investment = alot to dont ask, you cant afford it
Maintance/fuel - alot
Is it worth it...well, if you have to ask, no. If you are producing on that level that makes you debste buying, you know.
Renting or CoOp though...your competing with other sized operators for limited time frame on a machine...if that window shrinks - its super tough.
