I think you should buy a deere, that way there are more good used cheap Gleaners on the market for us guys that dont have problems with them. Oh and dont forget to come back here and complain about your JD when you have a few problems with it too. Sorry I like our 800 and 8000 heads, we have short beans too. Most of our short bean problems is when the sections get a little dull or the beans are tough. We have an air reel it helps dramatically, I know several other guys who are using them on the other colors also, getting the air blast to push the beans against the sickle a little bit helps amazingly. We have cut right at 900 acres of beans this fall from green stems to shortys. Most harvested fields look really nicely shaven. I also will swear by the SCH if the sections are sharp, no comparison. You can ask my buddy who accidently got his finger stuck in the sickle as I was turning the auger. NO it didnt cut it off, luckly but I didnt even feel the resistance when I turned the auger. If I could just get my dad to drive straighter in the 15 inch beans I would have it made. Just kidding Dad

I use a 500 30 ft., and with the adjustable tilt on the '97 R72 and lat tilt, I get a beautiful job of cutting up to 5.5 mph with the so called outdated clean cut (Tiger Jaws). I have been cutting off of muddy ground lately with no problems as well. All has to be set up and adjusted to the conditions in my experience. I would still like to use a draper if it could shave the ground like this flex head.

Hibred, I agree with you about putting the head on the gleaner. I traded for my new head, and used it the first day on Sat. Then ran the deere head on Sunday,If I had a way out of that trade.There would be a new Deere head on my 72 without a doubt.Even if I couldnt hook everything up.Because like you say,on my 800 head the fore and aft worked on one side and not the other(unless you hold the button in the cab and have someone jump start it with a hammer).I am always adjusting my automatic header,either the height or sensitivite,because it cuts to high or drags up dirt.On my New head, the fore and aft is backwards some how,and my automatic tilt wont work,But I did pay the 200.00 for the new 20.00 plug to convert it to the"NEW STYlE HOOK UP" What a joke that is. Oh yeah forgot to mention, cut till 930 tonight to finish a field so we could move tommorrow, 30 mile trip home, never seen one combine in the field cutting beans. Maybe it got to tough for them or they might just be relaxing during the peak of harvest. Or maybe they were already done cutting them short beans at 6 mph

Check with me next year, I want to move our 25 ft 8000 to the 62 and move up to a 30 ft on the 75. Maybe I can find a good used 30 ft air reel too.

RamRod, I understand what you are saying about being in adjustment. But conditions change from middle of the day to night,that is when you can change that deere with a dial in the cab to allow different pressure, I can get off in the dark with a wrench and adjust the springs on mine, They are the same price for heads,if not alittle higher for the gleaner,I dont think they should be. I always drove gleaners because they were cheaper to buy and operate,They were as good as anything going back in the AllisChalmers days.They are now over priced for what you get on there heads.There is not a whole lot of difference in a 300 and a 8000 in the make up of the heads other then the auger. Hey Ramrod we had a tiger jaw once. I loved it when it was new, but man replacing parts on it to keep it cutting good was expensive and if it wasnt in new condition it was terrible. We had to completely work it over after the first day of cutting wheat one year. It would just strip the heads instead of cut the straw. No neccesarily knocking it, but I would opt for a SCH no doubt.

The 300 actually had quite abit more flex, but the cutter bar had to be farther away from the auger on the 300's to get all that flex. A 300 would be great with an air reel
