Irrigated agriculture

On average, irrigated agriculture is at least twice as productive per unit of land as rainfed agriculture. It represents about 20 percent of the total cultivated land and contributes to 40 percent of total food production. How do you foresee its future with the competition for water resources expected to increase?

I've thought about this conundrum and I'm afraid it will push the small to medium-sized farms out of the market altogether. The more scarce a resource is, the higher its price. Eventually, it won't be affordable.

I think we'll become more and more efficient at growing food and lumber with less resources. "Need" leads to creativity and innovation. I'm sure it will be rough going for a while though.
