Do you realize that there are farmers doing just the opposite. does deere offer a 10 year- 10000 hour warranty on there tractorsIJ newholland does. How about the lateral tilt on the head, newholland had that first. how about the stone trapIJ I know that there are farmers moving to all different colors. A friend of mine test drove a genisus about 8 years ago, at that time he was all deere, now he is all blue. Can you tell me one thing deere is far ahead ofIJ Maybe you should read the Nebraska test results. I have nothing against deere. Do you realize that if it wasn't for these companies competing, we would be farming like they do in Africa.

this whole thing started because some poor guy couldn't figure out how to set his combine. Or maybe he needs to replace the concave and bars. On a walker machine this is way more than a little necessity. I believe any machine can be set to give a good, dock free sample whether it has a big rotor or a conventional cylinder_walker setup. They all have tradeoffs and most know it. How good your relationship with your dealer with the repair help matters a whole lot more than any of the other stuff. Just because you are stuck with a certain color does not mean it is the best, just that you have to make the best out of it. GS

Very well said, its not the color, its the support of the dealer and how well they understand your operation.

As far as combines go, John Deere's cab is far better than any other, here in ontario I've seen and heard of people puting Deere corn heads on IH combines, and for tractors, Deere's new front suspension is second only to fendt, mabee better. Don't forget Resale.

i believe John Deere is the best. Every piece of equipment might not be the best, but it all averages together. We dont have all new equipment, but as far as technology goes.. John Deere blows everyother company away. Their transmissions are better then any..even as far back as the 4020.. ours shifts 10 times better then our "off" colored tractors.. there engines seem to run forever and they are fuel efficent. When i read the farm magazines and news letters...it seems the other companies are copying Deere with alot of their designs.. for example..the 8000 series tractors..i believe if you painted a MX 270 you'd have a tough time tellin who is who.. their design and basic layout and controls are pretty much the same as Deere's. Also..the new John Deere "7" series round balers... with the cover edge wrap.. who just came out with the same thingIJ....New Holland..Im not saying everything Deere builds is the best possible.. but from the experiece i've had with equipment....Deere is by far the best...So yes.. Deere is the best..no question about it. Merry Christmas Everyone! ~Chad~

Actually not only is the dealer important it is how much pride the operator has in his work, If he has any at all it wont matter what color of equipment he uses if he is willing to go the distance to achieve maximum yeilds all brands will do the job and do it as pefect as the operator is willing to achieve.

I don't know what you call fuel efficient, but I don't know of any other combine that uses more fuel than an STS. They even had to increase the tank for 2002 to make it through most of a day. I ran a combine this year that did the same work as an STS with about 30% less fuel. You also must like blowing out radiators. An STS has to be cleaned several times a day in some conditions. Our 8310_8320 tractors are just as bad. Their electronic is shaky, too. When the moisture sensor has a hicky it can shut down the whole combine. I've already heard the NH CR is just as good in that. John Deere is by far not the best but so is everybody else. If there would be a company coming today that would really listen to customers and operators and provide the needed service they could wipe anything present of the market. But since the competition is just dinging around, John Deere will remain the market leader because of the largest dealer network and secured resale. Caterpillar had the chance many times. They blew it on the Birotor, they blew it on the lexions and they even let their Challengers go. That tells you how much these bean counters give about agriculture.

Deere must be best - they sell more than anyone else - correct. That must mean deere customers are richer - more wealthy than other color owners. It would seem an easy thing to prove - just show us your financial statements - we could make a statistical sample of farmers and determine which are more wealthy by color. Could do the stat sample of the farmers that get government payments - but guess that might leave out the real wealthy farmers - those that do not get government payments. love everything about farm talk - combine talk except the color wars - color wars are mostly anecdotal and mean almost nothing. Facts are hard to come bye in color wars. I really like it when problems are solved for farmers in need of help. best, bill koob

Good job telling it like it is. I do think the best combines were built years ago. Just because they were not a large as today's ego feeders doesn't mean much. GS
