I worked for a local Allis Chalmers_New Holland dealer when I left high school, and our shop was lucky to "break-even" in an average year. This was the general rule back then, but the parts counter always made money. Product sales was marginally profitable as well, but to think that there's "big dollars" to be made in service would be a false hope; - it's more like a "necessary evil"! I'm all for saving money, though, and if I can find a good used piece of equipment in the local classifieds, I buy it!
