I think it will be easier to keep the stock auger and add fingers across the whole width. If you look at how the stock fingers in the center work it is pretty simple and adding them the full width of the head shouldn't be too hard. I think the Deere auger would be too big in diameter to fit in an 820 without a total redesign of the head.

The JD auger has more bearing supports welded inside the auger. The larger diameter auger is stronger, resistant to bending, a problemwith 30 foot heads. They put new fullfinger augers in old JD heads saving lots of $$$ over new.
