Combines Kansas Wheat cutting 9600 owners

If everyone around you has trouble getting the white caps of I would consentrate about the broken kernels. go back to basics,open the lower sieve a litle again. and then slow down the cylinder before oppening the concave, its better with tight concave and slow cylinder than fast cylinder and open concave. Do you have a broken sieve or concaveIJ I would suggest a visual control of both. A rockdamage on cylinderbars_concave could also cause the broken kernels. I hope this makes sense to you.

Are the half heads full of grainIJ The Chaffer at 5_8 may be open too much Put the most air on it you can, I have been in the 1100-1200 range in 25-35 bu wheat. Does it make a better sample in the heavy or light stuffIJ I think you could run more than 3.1 in good wheat. Keep me posted, Gg

we are running the cylinder 1010 no load and nearly closed on the conave. 1050 on the fan. sieves are set at 16 on the top and 6 on the bottom. we run 9610. getting .9% dock in 20 to 50 bu wheat.

I don't know now that you mentioned it. I never thought to grab one and try to thresh it in hand and see. I was just assuming they were. I'm taking in nearly all the straw the plant has to offer and running it through the machine. There are alot of heads that fell over and are laying next to the ground and I am trying to get them too as I harvest along. I wonder now if those are sucker heads and don't have any grain in them and I'm wasting my time going after them. I figured they must be full of grain to have the weight to fall over but I am thinking now I better have a walk and check. cloud cover and 80 percent humidity right now. Got a small sprinkle on me doing chores this morning. I don't know whether to go out and try to run or just set and wait. I don't see any other combines moving in the country right now either. confounded weather.

looked the concave over before harvest and all was good. Same with the seives. Nothing broke that I can see or hear or feel. Combine ran like a singer sewing machine last nite till the lil chain that holds the shaft that runs the belt drive on the left side of the 930 plat to the gear on the reverser pulley let loose and the sickle started hammering. I'll give it another look see again this afternoon. I still think that concave on zero is just way to tight but I can't figure out how those half heads are even getting through on me without getting some threshing done to them. I don't have the plates installed between the bars like corn machines do. I only run sorghum and wheat so I have never had a need for them and I have had trouble in the past with an unbalanced cylinder. Most of the time the only time I kick off the threshing mechanism is between fields and shutdown overnight. Anymore I leave it on the rest of the time so I don't have to try and get the cylinder back in balance at startup each time. Thank you for the thoughts.

We have not got the 9600 out yet but on the lexion I am run the concave at 4mm, cylinder at 1100 (no load) fan 1400, chaffer 12mm, bottom 6mm. Those settings are completely closed for the concave and as fast as the cylinder will go.

That is with a 36' head taking all the straw in. And running slightly faster than you.....5mph

I backed the concave back open a bit. It isn't grinding the straw and the wheat kernals any more now. Completely closed on good concaves and bars is to much. I got dock down from 1.6 to 1.1 now. I think a lil more tweaking on the sieves and keep adjusting speed more readily to adapt to the changing wheat thickness in the field and I might be able to improve on that some too. Still get an occassional half head of wheat in there. Talked to a guy yesterday running an R62 and he said he was having similar problems as well but not quite as bad as mine. Gonna write this off as it's just the year. Been hearing that the wheat ripened awfully fast after the rains quit and the sun came out and those white caps "scabbed" themselves to the kernal and there is just no getting them out. Everyone bringing in wheat is having fm problems in this area this year. Guess should be so lucky to have something to cut. Alot of guys on the north end of the county already had the great white combine come through 3 weeks ago. Talked to lil brother this morning and he said gal at the coop told him they had to refuse one load of wheat. It had a test weight of 43 or 45. Alot of guys are bringing in low 50's test weigth wheat. All of mine so far has been right at 60 (knock on wood). No fabulous yields though. First field was 39 and this next looks like it's not going to be 35 even. Continous crop ground though. Going to move to a summerfallow field this afternoon that looks good from the road. Hopefully it will yield better. That april freeze was as worthless as it gets.

After reading the posts and replys on this subject, one thing comes to my mind. Have you checked the back of the concaveIJ You might be running "0" clearance on the front, but the back might be out for some reason, and might need to be trued.

Hi Bigsky No, this year I havn't checked it but last year I leveled the concaves and I was setting on "2" when cutting Milo. Nothings changed to that machine or had any work done to it back there to cause anything else to go out of whack to my knowledge but if memory serves me correctly, when the concaves move on a deere it is the rear that is brought closer to the cylinder while the front is the pivotal point. I might be wrong but going on memory it seemed to me that was the way it worked. This humidity we are working in isn't helping anything either. 10 o'clock this morning it was still 69 percent humidity. Got down to 49 percent this afternoon again but by evening back in the 60's again. We arn't getting started before noon and we are quitting at dark because of this high humidity. It just makes that cylinder growl and even Fathers axial flow is suffering from the effects of it this harvest as well. Just keep hammering away a day at a time. It'll be a longer harvest than usual with lower yields, lower test weights and high than usual FM dockage but at least there is something to cut. 1 field tonite that got hailed on made 32 and another made 20. Go farther north and those wheat fields made 2 bales to the acre......lOl. Count my lucky stars I can be out in the combine and not the swather or early with the disk and tractor.
