Thats the way we do it all the time.It's fairly easy and works well.

I have the local sheet matal shop cut and bend about a dozen at a time for me... I have him make them wide enough to do and l and if we do an M we have to trim it off abot 10 inches... Works good...We remove as much or rusting old metal as possible... and lay in a good bead of silicone betwen new and old...

we go to the local junk vendor and get stainless sheet metal and slide it under the auger

We made one with a piece of sheet metal. To get curve in the bottom, we nailed two 2X4's together about 8-10 inches apart, put the sheet on top and drove the front tractor tire over it (between the boards). We also rivited it in place, with silicone on the seam.
