Combines leaf problem

Took the back row out but changed to beans. Go back to corn in about 3 days and well see. My dealer says they are working on a screen kit to solve some of this.

let us know how it works. I was advised not to take the back row out; said it would change the air distribution to the chaffer. But I can't seem to stop leaves from getting in there

I'd really like to have a chat with your "adviser". If taking one row of fins off the back of the chaffer is going to really upset the air balance, what will having the last 6 inches plugged by leaves doIJ Before I removed the fins, it usually meant a dirty sample, because what wouldn't fall through the sieve normally, also couldn't get to the return pan and ended up being forced through the sieve and into the tank.

I've found most dealers of any color are an abundance of caution when faced with thinking that is considered out of the box, especially when any changes to the machine are hard to undo; like pulling rows of fins out of chaffers. That being said; if the answer to what seems to be a common problem is to seal up the combine to keep leaves and straw out, then Gleaner should have started the job at the factory. Instead of sending 'em out with belly screens that fit like a saddle on a sow and a hole by the hydro that a small dog can chase a cat through. I guess that's the beauty of forums like this, the exchange of experiences so we know which side of the fence to jump to; even if some of those jumps, like a few of mine, don't work as well as planned. If the pack appears to be running without the back row of fins and AGCO is following suit with the new ones, guess I'll follow the pack. Thanks for your comments Ed.
