Visited the JD combine site a couple days ago just to see how some of the other parts of the world live. Man is there ever a lot of negativity over there esp towards head office. Saw some schematics of the STS (rotaries to us commoners)in farm pubs. What a mechanic and repair nightmare in my opinion. Was also told by a neighbour that was looking at one purchased in the area that the electrical system is mostly printed circuits, etc operating at odd voltages that are not field fix friendly without multimeters and service manuals. Does Gleaner have patents on their designIJ It just seems so darned simple with few moving parts. Not perfect yet but getting closer.

Entertaining, JoJoMac, but a little inaccurate! Deere had the cab before CaseIH, and I think the crop accelerator reminds me of the White_Massey rotaries.

Pardon me if i'm wrong SilverTurnedGreen but are not the cabs on the Case and Deere made by the same outside company. john

Hello Johnboy! Indeed, the cabs for both Deere and CaseIH are built by the same supplier, but Deere was the first company to use the cab. Deere's 9000 series was introduced prior to the CaseIH 2000 series, not that it means much anyway!

I had a 9650 out for a field demo last week! Nice machine but a little underpowered and, yes, it certainly appears to be a mechanics nightmare to remove the rotor, if_when you should ever have to! My C62 is looking better all the time!

Deere STS - the "Unrotor Rotary"! I guess time will tell the tale on these things, same as all of them. I do have to give them credit on the egg shaped cage - they may be onto something there. They are doing basicly the same thing as Hyper's Hi_lo bars - giving the crop a chance to uncompress and flip over, releasing kernals. As for the tines, I don't know. I'd think they would wrap up in tough, green soybean stems but I haven't heard any reports to that extent yet. There biggest downfall is the same as all the other longitudinal rotors - the orientation of the rotor! That crop has to make a bend going into the rotor no matter what kind of rocket science they put into their jello mold feederhouses or "accelerators" (which, btw, is a word that sounds quite familiar!). As for the complicatedness, that's just part of being a Deere! Make'em big, make'em heavy, and most of all Make'em complicated! An auger bed AND a shaker panIJ Jeesh! JoJo - what is Deere's policy towards mutiny if they ever find you outIJ ;)
