Combines New Holland Dropping the Ball

I haven't driven a TG but I have seen it up close and been in the cab. Take the "supersteer" off and it is a MX other than some cosmetic and interior design differences. I have driven the MX series and I'm not fond of the design. Neighbor who has quite few MX's says that they are weaker when compared to the Magnums of same hp ratingsIJ I do like the hood design on the TG but then I'm used to the short hood of the Genesis. The Deere is like looking down a airstrip setting in the seat. Out of the Genesis motors I ran, never had a problem with the motors. They started easy, ran smooth, where quite, had lugging power and like you say where easy on the fuel gauge. Hey Ilnh, do you have a Genesis motor on your TR or the industrial Ford motor like on my '97. I lost the number 6 rod bearing on it this spring which was just one of those things I guess cause the shop that rebuilt it could not find any tell-tell signs of whyIJ Oil analysis so no trouble eitherIJ Other than that, it is a strong good running motor too. Will the TG with supersteer turn shorter than the MX. The MX will actually turn shorter than the Genesis on 30" rows only, so I wonder since the TG uses the MX frame it should turn a heck of a lot shorter than the MX, rightIJ

JD, I mentioned that I worked at a NH dealer for about 5 years, I now work for a CASE IH dealer (closer to home and more$$),anyway I have set-up several new MX's and the 240 for example is supposed to have 210 pto hp, but several of them when dynoed were only turning about 190, never saw that with a 70 sereis NH.

I have spent a little time with the TG and I think it is a huge improvement over the 70 series. The cab is alot like the MX's but is identical to the TJ's. The driveline on the TG's is quite different from the MX's in that the engine is bolted directly to the tranny. This eliminates the ridicules drivetrain between the engine and transmission that Deere and Case think is so wonderful. New Holland claims a 8% to 10% more efficient driveline. This tractor is in my opinion the one to have of the big three.

I dunno TR. I have heard that the Deere is supposed to turn sharper than the others but, I have the Deere setup just like the last 8970 and there is no comparision. Both are on 72 inch tread width. Oh, I mentioned I had a 7150 and the first 8970 was stronger....now it may have had something to do with how the tractor was designed or something other like the way they were weighted. They both had the same tires and size. That 7150 dyno-ed @270hp! I wish I would have bought that first 8970 but such is hindsight, ehIJ JD

Could you define "huge" and maybe be a little more specific on the improvementsIJ I do remember the driveline difference now that you mention it. Do you have an idea on it's price compared to the other'sIJ Thanks, JD

JD, I have Genesis in my 98, and I also had that in my 97, I would think that yours would of had it alsoIJ Around here the 97's that didn't were replaced after first year with Genesis engine. later, Ilnh

I think one of the largest improvements to the TG is the level of quality these tractors are going to have. One of my bigest complaints about the 70's all the oil leeks. I have had terrific amounts of problems with leeks on the remote stack valves and on oil pans. I agree that the Genesis tractors were way ahead of the competition in 1993 but since then the competition has caught up and passed by. It is going to be hard to beat the Genesis engine but I think that the cummins has some great potential. The overall feel of the TG I thought was very good. It drives very nice and has very good visibility. The transmission is just as good as the funk tranny in the 70's. I am real excited about this new machine and my dealer is expecting a TG285 in about three weeks. Can't wait to spend more time with it. Royal

My '97 has a '98 serial number so it was one of the last produced. It was a year old when I bought it and had a motor replaced at 82hrs but it is the Ford Ind. motor. It looks a lot like the Genesis but it's not inner cooled like the Genesis. Other than that I can't tell a difference. Uses the same filters as the Genesis both oil and fuelIJ TR are they one in the same other than a couple thingsIJ JD

My first 8970 had a leak on the valve stack in the first 15hrs develope. It was a bad mill on one of the bodies, replaced it, no more leaks. I really never had another leak on any of the 3 I had that was noticable. I can't see where this Deere is way ahead of the Genesis, it does have better vision and more electronic gadgets on it. The tranny down right sucks compared to the Genie's. Power is not anymore or less. Handles more like a 5020 or 6030 compared to the Genesis. like I said, I hope my dealer goes with the Buhler line! JD
