No new trucks!

We leased our last truck (wanted to see if it would do the trick for hauling some of our bigger trailers). Our lease is up, the truck lots are basically bare!
In hindsight, leasing was a horrible decision! It was before the pandemic! Prices for new vehicles now are sky high!
Anyone else seeing this?

I've never leased a vehicle, but I've noticed that our lots are bare. Several dealerships have closed up shop as well. I guess it will be bare pickings for a while. I wish you luck on the hunt, @Ritar.

We are in a similar situation here. The lots are bare and prices are high! We just put an order in for a new truck. The cost of uses trucks is crazy! Almost as high as a new one. We leased a vehicle years ago.

Would it be worth it to buy out your lease if it's an option? If not, try looking at some auction sites to see if they have anything good available.

Has been this way for a few months now due to the microchip shortage.

I've been looking for a new 3/4 ton truck off and on since the end of May to replace. Talked to a couple different dealers at that time and was quoted any where from a 2 month to 3 month wait if I ordered a new truck at that point.

From what I've been seeing used trucks (even high mileage ones made within the last decade) have been close to the price of new for a bit as well. "Newer" (anything within the last 5 years) used models are running as much (or possibly even more) than the nearly non-existent new trucks.

At this point since a new truck isn't yet an urgent thing for me (not after buying a used fleet '07 Ram 1500 from a neighbor to replace the prior '10 Ram 1500 as the engine in the '10 ate itself towards the end of May) I'm inclined to wait until things sort themselves out a bit more .....which I suspect isn't likely to happen until the microchip shortage is resolved or fuel prices rise for to the point (for long enough) that some people start trading in trucks for smaller more fuel efficient vehicles. However, I'm sure waiting isn't not an option for everyone - and to anyone in that situation I wish the best of luck.

Pick-ups have been ridiculously expensive for years. I buy new cars, but I can't afford new pick-ups. I have a 2001 GMC Sierra half-ton that I bought used in 2014, and I am trying to keep it going as long as possible, but I'll probably have to replace it in a year. Luckily it's not my daily driver, I just use it to transport hay, lumber and similar things. I never thought I'd be driving around in a 20 year old truck, but I'm not paying a tremendous price for a new or late model used truck.
