I price it around, and this fall the best deal was at my local CaseIH dealer who had 15_40 in bulk. I took my old rotella barrel in there and he refilled it and slapped on a case oil sticker. I would be highly surprised if all this oil didn't come out of the same cooker. I have never noticed any change in performance, or anything else for that matter whatever the brand of motor oil. You run it, it gets dirty. For a motor that runs full rpm and mostly full power all the time like a combine, 150 hours is way too long for me. I will stick with 80. gs

When I worked in Alaska in construction road building rock crushing ect. we used everthing from 580 case backhoe to d-9 Cat dozers to 800kw generators what I noticed over the years was interesting as a generaul of thumb we oil tested everthing when we changed the oil evertime .As a generaul rule we changed at 250hrs no we did not run the equipment for a couple of years then trade in we had numerous equipment with over 10000hrs on them and no problem we even had one 980 with nearly 17000hrs on it without an overhaul . The engines that ran wide open all day long without any idle time exsept start up and shut down would allways have the cleanist oil by far the engine that idled off and on all day had the dirdiest oil. the lab we used for oil analist was great the two biggest things they would catch on engine oils were internal fuel leaks and air intake leaks (engine suck up dirty air) the also worked with us on wich oils we used . some definitly work better than other in different engines and aplications so my advise is I would first start an oil anlist program get a couple samples at same hrs in then swith to the higher doller oil and re cheack with oil analisis to see if in your aplication that it works to your advantage. my on farm sitiation I usually have a time issie more than an hr issui as far as oil changes you should never park you equipoment for the winter with used oil acid in the oil does not far good on bearings ect. and oil that has set for several months getting condisation in it should be really run either so I usually change the oil after the first day or two in the spring and make sure that I change at the end of year and if I put enough hrs on it change as hrs or condition requyire it to be changed

Really interesting story.. thanks. I strongly considered taking the pipeline welder test and hiring on the alaskan oil pipeline years ago, I wonder how that would have turned out. What does it cost to sample your oilIJ I run the motor and separator about 15 mins each month just for the purpose of unloading any condesation. Acid in the oil will occur as soon as you start it up. Nature of the beast. cheers! gs

cost on oil sampling varies some oil supliers if you buy in bulk their premium oil will do free oil test last I cheacked around 10 to 15 just make sure you are extra carfull getting the sample I highly recomend getting a suction samler usually cat deallers have them you can put the sample bottle on the bottom and suck up (warm oil) right into the bottle you have to send off.
