Pickles too crisp

I think most people must like their pickles extra crispy because every recipe I find seems to turn out pickles that you can easily snap in two. I like mine...softer? Limper? Not crunchy? I'm not sure how to describe the texture I'm after exactly, but the ones I've made aren't my favorite. I've been using the cucumbers from my garden and making the pickles through water bath canning. They taste good, but I don't like the texture. Would they be less crisp if I tried another method to make them like hot fermentation (dry canning)?

I can only offer you anecdotal evidence, but the longer you leave them be, the mushier they'll get. So after you can them as usual, wait a month or three before opening the jar and eating them and I suspect you'll see a big difference.

The blossom end makes cucumbers softer so try canning whole pickles and see if that helps. I agree with Digger about letting them sit longer as well.
