Kind of a strange idea, but is there any thing worth keeping in the returns......maybe just run with the door open.

Its a great idea. I've done it before in wheat that the herbicide got away from us on. In grass it may be done, but there usually are quite a few "doubles" in the return. Doubles are basicly the same as a broken off wheat head tip where you have maybe 2 or 3 seeds still in the hull needing to be threshed a little more. The density wieght of grass will vary greatly, but an idea is that a 1680 factory hopper with NO extensions other than the factory fold ups will carry about 2.5 ton when full. Again it varies a lot and can be heavier or lighter depending on those variables.

Excellent. let us know what you find. Remember to not turn the seperator switches off untill everything has stopped. Then turn them off so you can restart the engine. If you turn the switches off before, the seperator will just coast to a stop and the true nature of the machine in operation will be somewhat decieving. Your operators manual should have these insturctions in it.

I appreciate that! I agree that these boards are a great source of information. (And I am also 42)

I'll look forward to seeing those pictures. I didn't think about the material being too light to feed evenly into the auger. Seems like the only way to fight that would be to get better separation at the chaffer, or make major modifications to the return like you did. It will be interesting to hear what worked from farm41.
