We've got a fellow here that farms between 20-25,000 acres,( not a misprint) pays rent up to 175_acre,usually rents good farms, says he makes $10_acre net.I know some of the inputs are boght at bulk price.Although the man is a good mananger,I question his smarts,a small crop will whipe him.All I can say is crazy.

It's hard to find ground to rent here in Iowa for under $150_a. I have been custom farming a 200 acre farm nearby for some years and now under estate it was decided to cash rent it. Farmers came out of the woodwork offering up to $200_a cash up front, each hoping to screw their neighbor first. The owner said it was mine for $175_a including bins and continued liming. I have never paid anything like that for any of my other ground, but it is about what 90% of the farms are renting for in the area. It does pencil out, but it gives the owner 80-90% of profits. It sucks big time for me, a young farmer owning 35 acres and farming about 750 acres total.
