Through the years, I have tried every product out there to kill the red ant infestations I have on my property. So just on a whim, I poured some paint thinner down a hole, and I haven't seen them come back yet.

If it's the same next week, I'm buying more. Just thought I'd share my little experiment in case others have the same problem.

Paint thinner? That's a novel idea. When it warms up around here I might give that a try. Put in a sprayer maybe and spray the perimeter of the house.

Whatever works I guess. I'm no pest control expert, but have you looked into any possible negative effects to the soil by putting that into it?

I always look for non-toxic solutions. I live in the northeast, so we don't have red ants, but I have relatives who do, and they've told me that they've had luck with repeatedly pouring boiling water on the nests. They claim it works, but I can't tell you for sure.
