Combines rocktrap

We had a 1480 for many years with a rocktrap. It seemed that the rocktrap was a bottleneck for combine capacity, as that was always the first place to plug. The last three years we have had a different 1480 without a rocktrap. We hardly ever plug the feederhouse anymore. We just keep the front drum stops set low so that it will stop if a large rock comes in. Every once in a while a rock will get through and knock a chopper blade off, but I think it's worth it for the better feeding. I don't see how guys can run a rocktrap on a 2388 without losing capacity...

i have a rock trap on my 2188 and my dad has a rock trap on his 2388, and in wheat we gear up the rock trap with a 2 to 1 gear ratio. never had a problem feeding the crop into the rotor.

we have had alot of good luck with rock traps. They dont slow you down when harvesting and plus for the little price and if they already come with the combine it is a good investement becasue one rock could alot more damage than just one or two chopper knifes.

The first IH rock traps on the 14 series combines were a four blade rock trap beater. I believe they changed that soon after to a three blade beater, this greatly improved the capacity.

Our neighbor put a rock trap on his 2188, and kept the original feeder house.

I have a rock trap with the 54 inch feeder house. This setup is the standard lenght with rock trap. The 60 inch feeder house is for without a rock trap. Earlier axial flows also had a 47 inch feeder house. I'm not impressed with my rocktrap, If it wasn't on the combine I bought I would, not add or order on a new one. Slows capacity and rocks seem to go on through. The rock drum set at mininum works best for me.

I NEED a rock trap for my 2188 in the worst way. I have been told that my combine has the 59" feeder house, therefore the rock trap cannot be installed on it. If the combine was equipped with a 49.5 " feeder house, I could install one. Has anyone heard of this situation beforeIJ Are there any other things I can do because I NEED a rock trap - very stony land.

I know of 60 inch feeders and 54 1_2 inch feeders but not the ones you mention. I have 54 1_2 inch feeders but can't use a rocktrap in my area ,so I had to get a stone retarder instead.
