Combines So long Daschle

I am from South Dakota and when the ranchers out west have another bad year and can't get a dime out of Thune, they may realize the mistake they made. Daschle had done alot for us and most people that did not like him had so much money that they could burn it. We will see what the republicans will do now that Daschle is out, maybe they will ruin the country more.

I never knew much about Mr Daschle,I would have to say i did not like him from whatI saw on tv. But if he stood up for the ranchers I would have to say he was rare indeed. There is not much of that that happens these days. One would think that the republicans would have to take care of the red states seeing how we put them where they are in this election. I hope it works out for me and you.

I know we Canadians sure won't miss him. I understand his wanting to stick up for ranchers in his country, but when he does it by using every dirty trick in the book to screw his neighbours, I say good riddance. Protectionist jerk.

We have our own cattle and hogs in the U.S. we do not need anymore that have the foot and mouth, that is why we are scared of your cattle. When you start buying alot of our goods then we can talk.

Its not foot and mouth, its BSE or Mad Cow disease. And FYI, its not about protecting the ranchers. (It actually hurts the ranchers, more on this in a minute) When BSE was found in Japan so many years ago, Canada banned Japanese Beef for seven years. I believe that Japan has told the US that Canada needs pay back. Japan is a big trading partner with the US, so the border is closed to all live Canadian beef. So, now the border is opened to processed beef from animals of something like 2 years or younger. The reason the lack of Canadian beef hurts your people is that now your Cattle industry has inflated prices and the feed prices are deflated. The feed lots are empty, and the cattle are being grown, fed and processed with Canadian labour. That means that the longer this goes on the fewer feedlots and meat processors will stay in business in the US because of the shortage of beef. In the end the Canadians will have the feed lot and processing jobs. The common belief of the beef industry was that NAFTA made the beef prices in the US drop and a rise in prices in Canada. The likely truth is not that NAFTA impacted the market that much. The truth is that the Canadian beef industry benefitted from a very favorable exchange rate. The closed border coddles the US ranchers at the expense of the whole US beef industry and makes the Canadian beef industry (from rancher to processor) a stronger competitor. The Canadians are not out to get the Americans. The way things look from here, you will make the competition stronger.

So you want all the gas and power shut off.Your well informed it is BSE,do you know what you are talking about. There is lots of U.S.A products come into Canada.I know Alaska would like the border to open.I like how politicians keep farmers fighting among themselves thinking each country is getting a better deal, but what i read on here i think everyone is getting the short end of stick. The old saying divide and conquer and thats what they do to farmers around the world.

You have had BSE down south for how long nowIJ We were just doing the right thing and reporting a sick animal insted of shooting and burring it. Your neighbour to the north.

You are so wrong with feedlots being empty. All the feedlots around SW ND are filling up. The feedlots are paying the money to get the calves. It is the rancher that is not wanting to keep replacements. The rancher is keeping replacements because they hope the border stays closed. The rancher wants and is making money because of the border being closed. There is maybe a small shortage of beef, but I repeat the feedlots are filling up. Justin
