For the standard, speed it up. I keep going until it quits being noisy, within reason. I have only run standards but they say the specialty does wonders. I put new cyl bars on mine from St. John's and actually couldn't tell when the dew came on at night.

You should also try closing the concaves when the roping starts. The rotor needs to grip the vines_stalks and auger them out the back and the tough ones start winding up like a rope and slipping. You can also install "Disrupters" in the grates for not too much money or trouble. Check "attachments" at the left. The specialty rotor is more aggressive and grabs the Mog better to get it out the rearend, but it does not thresh as well as the standard. So then you may need to add Gordon bars to it. Always something it seems. Now there is the new AFX rotor, but I think it requires a newer combine too. Oh yes, St John Welding has a modified rotor that will stop the grumbling too. All you need is money and time.

if you want a speciality, I have one I took out of my 2388 to put in a AFX. It has chrome rasp bars and is in real good shape. have had specialities for a long time, night and day bettween it and the standard rotor.

I run a 60 machine with standard rotor. Disrupters and green maize bars (they replace the long, straight, smooth bars in the rear half of the rotor) helped me wonders, but i can still rope when its extremely tough (past when any reasonable person should be in the field, and way past any deere). I run my concave on .5-1.5, rotor speed 800-900. I don't know how 80 rotor speeds should compare to 60's.
