Well good thing about door being open with no warning is area likely plugged with straw and little to no crop loss. You may have noticed in your condition that feeding worsened and may of noticed material not flowing as well as normal threw rotor. I have never liked micro switch they use on door pivot to let you know door is open. It is hard to adjust just right where it is located. In an effort to eliminate this problem we have installed proximity switch instead of micro switch. Better yet we have now eliminated top switch. We just lock linkage together with holes all ready provided. We then wire in the bottom switch only. For bottom switch to alert operator if door is open or linkage was left in lock up position you need to grind flat area in collar that micro switch runs on. We hook the return spring to threaded rod and pull it forward to keep slack out of link rod. Now you can fold up door, lock it, then turn linkage CCW a bit to get it off of over center. This works very well and light is very reliable. This system works well with or without sump system. Now if you have sump system and want to do this operation easily from ground level with one wrench you need to add universal joint to socket on end of long wrench. You can do this easily by cutting socket off of wrench and then weld on 1_2" drive universal. Then tack weld the socket onto universal. I use heavy impact wrench type universal. long clean out rod for sump lays along clean grain elevator on newer machines. Make sure threaded rod is adjusted proper so it holds door all the way shut when tring to latch. I havn't run or cleaned the sump on newest machine but I bet they are very easy to clean and shut. I don't mind the sump system so much anymore if helicals are setup to prevent jamming the straw back down into it but am very worried many guys will never clean it. I definitly prefer door with hump attached for most situations.
